Search Engines
A search engine is a web site created for the sole purpose of helping people find what their looking for in the web. Explaining exactly how a search engine works would take AGES, so I'll just tell you how to use them (which is probably what you wanted anyway).
Step One
Go to the web address of the search engine. A list of search engines and their addresses can be found later in this page (or at Search Engine Watch)
Step Two
In the box found at the site, type in what your looking for and hit enter. Say you're searching for a page on the Rosanna Scouts club. Type in "Rosanna Scouts Club" not "a page on the Rosanna Scouts Club" (once again, Search Engine Watch has a section on making the best terms for your search).
Step Three
A list of pages will come up. These are the results of your search and they are usually numbered in terms of importance ie. Page 1 has a better chance to be what you're looking for than Page 4.
List of search engines
1. Google
Google is by far the most popular of the search engines. It has a lot of good features, and is a first choice for many awards.
2. AllTheWeb
AllTheWeb is the next most popular after Google. It too boasts many features.
3. Teoma
Teoma is not the best search engine in terms of useability, but has a very wide range of sites.
4. AltaVista
The Google of its day, AltaVista is now not as popular and many users have changed from AltaVista to Google.
I hope this page helped you
